Kevyn Lettau and Friends in Concert

Kevyn Lettau and Friends in Concert

After years of requests from fans wanting to be able to bring my band into their living rooms, I was lucky enough to record this Live Concert DVD!

We played tunes from several of my albums creating an intimate atmosphere with the audience.

It was a wonderful experience for me, I feel like we captured the magic, passion and respect for the music as well the love between us!

When I watch it, which I rarely do (only when I must because I need a refresher on one of the songs), there are so many amazing moments between the band members that I don’t even hear or see when I am in the middle of the dance.

I hope you will check it out and let me know what you think!

Thanks so much!!!

Forever Lover and Friend

Hold me till morning
Soothe me in silence
Promise the music won’t fade

Let me adore you
Give you new reason to play
Our serenade

Heal me with your laughter
Let the celebration never find an end
My heart is with you
Forever lover and friend

Voices invite you
Treasures delight you
Moonbeams embracing the night

Daybreak is dawning
Melodies calling your name
A sweet refrain

Heal me with your laughter
Let the celebration never find an end
My heart is with you
Forever lover and friend

I spent each day lost in dreams
Full of what it’s and if only
I could change your mind
Until the moment of truth
When you came to me
To make my wold my life unfold

Heal me with your laughter
Let the celebration never find an end
My heart is with you
Forever lover and friend

The taste of youth passing by
Seasons changing, ever faster
Weeks turn into years
A lifetime journey of joy
Building memories to call upon
When we grow old

One Note Samba

This is just a little samba
Built upon a single note
Other notes are sure to follow
But the root is still that note

Now this new note is the consequence
of the one we’ve just been through
As I’m bound to be the unavoidable
consequence of you

There’s so many people who can talk
and talk and talk
And just say nothing or nearly nothing
I have used up all the scale I know
and at the end I’ve come
To nothing I mean nothing

So I come back to my first note
as I must come back to you
I will pour into that one note
all the love I feel for you
Any one who wants the whole show
He will find himself with no show
better play the note you know

Little Things

A letter from home
The throw of a stone across the water
A walk in the rain
The sound of your name
A smiling stranger

A cat by the fire
A choir for hire serenading
Stars in the sky
A sweet lullaby
Knowing you love me

Sometimes it’s hard to find
It’s kind of like we are blind
To the subtleties along the ride
Living life unaware
Of the beauty we share
It’s the little things that matter most

The laugh of a child
A garden gone wild
The ring upon my hand
Table for two
A room with a view
A new beginning

Is it so hard to see
That the birth of a dream
Carries with to part of you and me
True love will succeed
If we can agree
It’s the little things that matter most

Sometimes it’s hard to find
It’s kind of like we are blind
To the subtlety along the ride
Living life unaware
Of the beauty we share
It’s the little things that matter most

Pickin’ Weeds

One of my big hobbies and teacher of patience is gardening. I have learned to respect and look up to nature in a whole new way. One of a gardeners most important tasks is weeding. Well, last year I was laboring over some very deep rooted foes when it dawned on me what a metaphor this cleaning out is for all of the emotional work I have been so committed doing regarding my past. Once again I wrote a poem and asked Russell to write the music. A week later I was singing Pickin’ Weeds! I love this song because it is just a bit off of left center!

Resistant to release their grip,
To the ground
Stubbornly rooted
Endlessly proud

They live only to take,
They steal from the soil
Shamelessly spreading
Claiming all for their own

I dig, i pull, i curse and cry
For the freedom to to breath
I give, i take, i search and sigh
For the courage to try

For the energy to foster,
A more deserving green
The earth our gracious host
The womb of our dreams

But weeds can be sneaky,
They can flower and shine
Mask their intentions
While they shadow the skies

I dig, i pull, i curse and cry
For the freedom to to breath
I give, i take, i search and sigh
For the courage to try

‘Cause i’ve been picking weeds
Like tap roots to my soul
Only one way to work it
Dig, sweat and go

The metaphor is mighty, fuels my quest
To keep a weedless mind
For an honest nights rest

Bringing secrets to the surface,
Wsorries to light
Unleash the best in me
That blooms out of sight

I’ve been gathering tools for the job at hand
Want to make things simple
Want to clean my land
Get to the bottom of this poison i’ve let grow
In my soul and my spirit
Love is aching for a home

Being Green

Who does not love Kermit? Who has not seen Kermit’s video of this song? Go check it out, it’s priceless!

I grew up with this song watching Sesame Street with my little sister. As a child it was cool, but as an adult the message is very profound. It’s basically about accepting ourselves the way God created us whether we are short, blind, tall, balding or green!

It’s not that easy being green
Having to spend each day
The color of the leaves
When I think it could be nicer being red,
Or yellow, or gold
Or something much more colorful like that

It’s not easy being green
It seems you blend in
With so many other ordinary things
And people tend to pass you over
‘Cause you’re not standing out
Like flashy sparkles in the water
Or stars in the sky

But green’s the color of spring
And green can be cool and friendly-like
And green can be big like a mountain
Or important like a river
Or tall like a tree

When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why
But why wonder why wonder
I am green, and it’ll do fine
It’s beautiful,
And I think it’s what I want to be

Wrapped Around Your Finger

Sting has such a gift with words. His lyrics have been a huge source of inspiration to me for many years. He is able to put words to feelings that most of us experience but have never been able to adequately express. This is what I believe to be the essence of the art of writing! This song touched me because it describes people coming out from underneath the thumb of someone they respect a lot and coming into their own. Maybe this song is just about growing up and being able to recognize self worth and strength! Russell made this arrangement reflect that struggle and then the ultimate victory.

You consider me a young apprentice
Caught between the Scylla and Charibdes,
Hypnotized by you if I should linger
Staring at the ring around your finger

I have only come here seeking knowledge,
Things they would not teach me of in college
I can see the destiny you sold
Turned into a shining band of gold

I’ll be wrapped around your finger
I’ll be wrapped around your finger

Mephistopheles is not your name
But I know what you’re up to just the same
I will listen hard to your tuition
And you will see it come to it’s fruition

I’ll be wrapped around your finger
I’ll be wrapped around your finger

Devil and the deep blue sea behind me
Vanish in the air you’ll never find me
I will turn your face to alabaster
Then you’ll find your servant is your master,

And you’ll be wrapped around my finger
I’ll be wrapped around your finger
You’ll be wrapped around my finger
I’ll be wrapped around your finger

Out of Town

It’s time to get away
To leave it all behind
Go take a holiday for the mind
You’ll be amazed what you’ll find

Outside, take a ride
You’ll see the open space
And you’ll feel it, feel it
Deep in your heart and soul
You’ll know you’re out of town

Far from the madness
No phone in sight, no TV
Far from worldly plight
Believe in me, kick back
Watching the mountains
Reaching for the sky above your head

You gotta go, you gotta see
you gotta know, yeah, you’ll agree
you gotta get yourself out of town

Now I believe that city living’s
Always owned a certain kind of charm
So much to see and do, both day and night
No matter what you want
You find it up the block
The latest musicals
You’d never have the chance to witness
When they hit the streets of town
If you decide this hectic pace Is not the life for you, I understand But let me tell you what it’s all about

There is a certain kind of energy
You won’t find in the sticks
It gives you drive
To be the best at what you do
Folks of all corners of the globe
You’ll meet and greet
And learn the cultures
Of their land
So much to see!
My very favorite thing
I hope that you’ll agree
Is in an hour or two
You leave it all behind you,
Hop a train heading out of town

It should be required for all mankind
Once a month to clear the soul and spirit
Give you strength to face another round
You’d be amazed at what a few days
From the grind will do to lift your laughter
Louder than you’ve ever heard before

Searching for balance
In this world of go, go, go
It’s hard, yes
Gotta listen to your heart
You do, you gotta go
Hey you, yeah, you’ll agree
Before you know you’re out of town

Go grab the ones you love
And show them how you feel a day
Away from the world we know
Hey you, don’t worry about spending dough
You’ll see, pack a lunch
Go find a shady lane and enjoy life
Live life knowing that mother nature’s gifts
Belong to all

You’ll see, no mystery
You and me won’t disagree
Flying high, will qualify
Overseas or in the trees

Move quick, life is short
Don’t wait till you grow old
Go take along a hike
Feelin’ like you’re out of town

Live life
Knowing that mother nature’s gifts
Belong to all
Deep in your heart and soul
You’ve got to know
The only way to go
They say is out of town

I’ve Got You Under My Skin

I had never sung this song, but I have always loved it thanks to Ella’s sense of humor and Frank Sinatra’s sex sound. I am also a huge fan of Cole Porter which is evidenced by my recording 3 of his songs on this CD! Dori had written an arrangement for Brazilian singer Gal Costa a few years back which got me so excited. It was must for the album!

I’ve got you under my skin
I’ve got you deep in the heart of me
So deep in my heart,
you’re really a part of me
I’ve got you under my skin

I’ve tried so not to give in
I’ve said to myself this affair
never will go so well
But why should I try to resist,
when baby will I know than well
That I’ve got you under my skin

I’d sacrifice anything come what might
For the sake of having you near
In spite of a warning voice
that comes in the night
And repeats, repeats in my ear

Don’t you know little fool,
you never can win
Use your mentality, wake up to reality
But each time I do,
just the thought of you
Makes me stop before I begin
’cause I’ve got you under my skin

My Cherry Tree

I think it must have been April or May when I was lying under my orange tree Jack (all of my trees have names). I was remembering the cherry tree in our back yard in berlin where I grew up. I wrote this poem describing the tree and my life surrounding the tree and Berlin. Russell had written several songs to my poems in the past, he has such a way of just pulling the passion out the words and matching them to melodies and harmony. Within a week or so the song was done; my cherry tree! so we went in the studio and recorded just this one tune. We were all so touched by and just couldn’t wait to get in on tape!

Picture the 60’s
Berlin and the hippies
Teaching me all about
What it meant to be free

With war and confusion
Hatred and sorrow
The walls of the city a symbol of gloom

The world in an uproar
Peace signs on every door
My home life a feared life, like no home at all

But 3 weeks a year,
I escaped from uncertainty
Into the arms of my delicious cherry tree
From high on the roof top, safe and secure
Picking precious candy, to nourish the soul

With stains on my lips
Fingers and clothes
Her rich crimson flesh
Stayed with me for long

I took comfort in climbing
It was private and true
My own secret island how I long to see you

Picture the nineties,
The wall nearly gone
The city a fragment of what I had known

A trip to Berlin
To bury my father
The visit an honor, to what I’m not sure

I venture to see my old friend, the tree
Are her cherries as sweet as in memory?
I drive down the street,
It looks smaller somehow
The houses so even, all straight in a row

I stop at the address; one thirty one
No house, no tree, no signs of the sun

It’s almost that time of year again
Time to give thanks to
The very first man in our life
The first man to hold you
The first man you knew
Yes,that’s the way it’s supposed to be
One big happy family

But after, many lonley summers
Searching for the only one,
I thought could fill this vacume
In my heart
I now surrender

I free myself
From the shame I’ve been prisoner to
I rejoice, in knowing those real fathers
The ones who never stopped loving
The ones who know no other way
Thank you is all I can say

Thank you for raising your little ones
With confidience and trust
Thank you for bringing
Every ounce of yourself
To face the challenge of parenthood

Thank you for listening when voices call
And for hearing
Even the faintest cry
I now surrender

It’s almost that time of year again

Shower the People

You can play the game
And you can act out the part
But you know it wasn’t
Written for you
Tell me, how can you stand there with your broken heart
Ashamed of playing the fool
One thing can lead to another
It doesn’t take any sacrifice
Oh father & mother, sister & brother
If it feels good don’t think twice

Shower the people you love with love
Show them the way you feel
Things are gonna be much better if you only will
Shower the people you love with love
Show them the way you feel
Things are gonna work out fine, if you only will

You can run, but you cannot hide
This is widely known
Tell me what you gonna do with your foolish pride
When your all by yourself alone
Once you tell somebody the way you feel
You can feel it beginning to ease
I guess it’s true what they say about the squeaky wheel
Always getting the grease
